Married women throng to Chauth Mata temple in Rajasthan's Sawai Madhopur district to celebrate Karva Chauth
On the occasion of Karva Chauth being celebrated today, married women in Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan are making a beeline for the Chauth Mata Temple right from the wee hours to pray for family prosperity and long life of husbands.
Initially, the temple was built in Samvat 1428 by Raja Bhim Singh Chauhan who was a staunch believer of Chauth Mata - deity representing Maa Parvati. He built the cave temple at Barwara village on the highest mountain of Arawali ranges, which was later developed into a big temple complex.

Also, women from other places of Rajasthan come to the temple on Karva Chauth to celebrate the auspicious day in the biggest temple of Chauth Mata in the state.

In fact, the temple has become famous for its Karva Chauth puja; rendering of the katha and offering prayers to the Goddess Chuath Mata.

It is situated on the 1000 feet high hilltop and one has to climb around 700 stairs to reach the temple complex built with white marbles with beautiful art work on its walls as wells as the idols of Lord Ganesha and Lord Bhairav too.

The religious sect to which the double-storey temple belongs currently is the Shakta Cult and the image of the goddess Chauth Mata is seated on a lion in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. Around the temple, a verandah has also been constructed.
