Martian atmosphere mainly consists of carbon dioxide, reveal NASA studies
According to NASA's Curiosity rover mission scientists, the analysis of Martian has revealed that the planet's air is made mostly of carbon dioxide along with traces of other gases.

Advanced spacecraft’s analysis closely matches with that of Viking Landers of late 1970s. The minor abundant gases are in the form of nitrogen and argon on Mars. These gases are almost equally proportioned, reveals the data collected by NASA.

The NASA scientists have reported that Martian atmosphere’s most dominant gas is carbon dioxide. It is unlike that of the earth's atmosphere which is a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen mainly. The research papers on the atmospheric composition of Mars have also been published in recent issue of the journal 'Science'.

Curiosity rover is the nuclear-powered space craft with six-wheel that is collecting the soil and air data of Mars the Martian equator almost for a year now. However, the recent papers have not dwelled on the issue of methane gas on the Mars.

NASA is now planning some studies on the presence of methane in the Mars’s atmosphere by making the rover climb to Mount Sharp about a few kilometers high from the planet's crater center. For more detailed studies on the presence of methane, NASA will shortly be launching a Mars-orbiting spacecraft called Maven.
