Martyrs' Day: Nation pays homage to Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru
Martyrs' Day got observed on March 23 morning in places and more so in Punjab in India and Pakistan to remember and pay homage to three martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country – Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru.

These three revolutionaries were hanged to death by the Britishers on this day for demanding freedom of their motherland. Their martyrdom is considered the ultimate sacrifice for freedom of the country which provided national momentum for the freedom struggle that time.

The event was also observed at Shadman Chowk in Lahore, Pakistan as the three men were hanged there on March 23, 1931 and their bodies were cremated on the banks of the Sutlej River.

Bhagat Singh who attained martyrdom at an age of 23 became an inspiration for the Indian youth and a symbol of national pride.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid tributes to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on the day of their martyrdom. "Remembering Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on the day of their martyrdom. India will never forget their courage and sacrifice", he said.
