Maruti gears up to meet shortfall in demand
With labour trouble at the Maruti's Manesar plant coming to an end, India's largest carmaker is stepping on the pedal to produce the highest number of cars in a month this fiscal.

THE LAST quarter witnessed production figures going down by almost 25 per cent as labour issues led to a major strike at the Manesar plant in Gurgaon, which was later supported by other subsidiaries of the company. Sources said that the company has fixed higher production target for October as compared to September, when there was 24 per cent shortfall in manufacturing. Ever since the company came into existence, this has been worst decline in production as Manesar plant in Gurgaon remained embroiled in labour trouble.

The slowdown in production has lead to huge increase in the backlog of bookings as the company failed to deliver to customers. Those, who had booked Swift are in for a particularly long wait as more than 1 lakh buyers have booked the hatchback. Sources said that Maruti is planning to go in for simultaneous production at Gurgaon and Manesar to meet the demand for Swift. In some cities, the waiting time for customers for petrol version of Swift is is almost 5 to 6 months and the demand has also surged during the festival season. Maruti is streamlining the operations at its plants in Gurgaon and Manesar to ensure that its protects the domestic market share as well as serve the export market.
