Maruti Suzuki Crosses 80 Lakhs Units
Launched in India on December 14, 1983, Maruti Suzuki India in these 25 years has rolled out more than 80 lakh cars. It was successful in touching the next 40 lakh units within a span of six years

MARUTI SUZUKI is more than 25-years old in India. In these 25 years, this car giant has rolled out more than 80 lakh cars in India.

Japanese car major Suzuki Motor Corporation joined hands with the Indian government and established the Maruti Udyog in 1982. Maruti 800 wass the company’s first car, be launched in India on December 14, 1983.

The then Maruti Udyog began with 844 units in its facility plant at Gurgaon and has manufactured 81,05,228 cars of its 14 models so far. The Maruti 800 alone accounts for over 27 lakh units. Out of this 27 lakh, approximately 25 lakh units were sold in the Indian car market and the remaining were exported.

Maruti Suzuki reached a milestone of one lakh units in the month of September 1986, and in twenty years crossed 40 lakh. But it was successful in touching the next 40 lakh units within a span of six years.

The month of July 2009, saw the highest ever in a month by Maruti Suzuki, which manufactured 86,630 units.

In the past 25 years, India’s number one carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has contributed about Rs 50,000 crore to the national exchequer. The company is now undertaking an investment programme of Rs 9,000 crore, which includes adding a new facility at Manesar and increasing the capacity of the Gurgaon plant, besides ramping up R&D activities and launching new models.
