Maruti Suzuki launches Ciaz Hybrid at 8.23 lakh onwards
Maruti Suzuki India, India largest passenger car manufacturer today launched a mild hybrid version of its mid-sized sedan, Ciaz. This marks the car maker's entry into the eco-friendly segment. The new model, Ciaz SHVS, shall be available only in diesel, which will be powered by a 1.3 litre engine.

The car has been priced between Rs 8.23 lakh and Rs 10.17 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The car uses a high capacity battery and a starter generator. The battery is used for storing energy which is generated during decelerating and braking, which powers an electric motor during acceleration, thus improving fuel efficiency.

"Through Ciaz Smart Hybrid, we are deploying technology to benefit customers and the environment. The vehicle is also special because it helps us participate in India's vision of promoting hybrid and electric vehicles," Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Kenichi Ayukawa told reporters.

Company sources claim that the car would give a fuel efficiency of 28.09 km per litre, which makes it the most fuel efficient car of the country. The company shll continue to sell its petrol version, which is priced between Rs 7.23 lakh to 9.64 lakh.

The company's announcement comes on the heels of the government launching the FAME India scheme in the month of April to promote eco-friendly vehicles which shall provide a financial support of Rs 795 crore till 2020. The scheme shall offer incentives on electric and hybrid vehicles, from two-wheelers to buses. For four-wheelers the incentive would be from Rs 13,000 to Rs 1.38,000.

Due to its hybrid category, Ciaz SHVS shall have an excise benefit of 12.5% instead of 24% for the normal version. The car would also get an additional benefit of Rs 13,000 under the FAME scheme. Muruti Suzuki India and its vendors have invested Rs 620 crore in the development of Ciaz, which now has a localized content of 98%.
