Maruti Suzuki, TVS register highest ever monthly sales
The rise in sales in the automobile market has completely been attributed to the strong consumer demand and cheap financing options which is now being offered by myriad financial institutions.
INDIA'S LEADING automobile manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki on Wednesday posted its highest ever monthly sales for August. The sales stood at 1,04,791 units, up by 23.6 percent. The figure of sales in 2009 stood at 84,808. Meanwhile, TVS, India' s third largest motorcycle manufacturer reported sales of 170735 units in August. Their figures were up by 34 percent. Apart from motorcycles, the company also manufactures bicycles and scooters.
 
A statement issued by Maruti said that last month's sales figures surpassed the 102,175 units that Maruti had sold in May. The small car segment of Maruti made highest sales whose figure stood at 65,953. The rise in sales in the automobile market has completely been attributed to the strong consumer demand and cheap financing options which is now being offered by myriad financial institutions.
 
Apart from Maruti and TVS, other automobile manufacturers, who posted high sales for the month of August included Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and the Indian units of Hyundai Motor Co., Ford Motor Co., Toyota Motor Corp., General Motors Corp. and Nissan Motor Co.
 
Tata Motors, which is India's largest automobile maker in terms of sales, reported a hike of 32 percent in their overall vehicle sales. The figures this year stood at 65,938, up from 49,810 vehicles in 2009. Exports doubled to 5,157 vehicles. The sales of Tata trucks grew exponentially by 20 percent to 35,585 units from 29,762 units while the sale of cars and sports utility vehicles (SUV's) grew by 45 percent to 25,196 units. Tata's latest addition in the mini car segment, Nano sold 8,103 units.
 
The profit reported came in when India's economy grew 8.8 percent in the first fiscal quarter to June. It has been the country's best performance since 2007.
