Mary Kom's controversial comment creates stir in local media
Champion boxer Mary Kom's comment about her state's media not supporting her has disappointed the Manipur press, but Mary Kom claims that she has been misquoted by the Mizoram media. The story has highlighted how sportspersons are covered by national and state media.

MARY KOM was been in headlines in many leading national newspapers and television channels after her bronze medal winning performance in London Olympics 2012. But the scene was quite different when it came to her state media, as she is claimed to have stated that her state media did not support her during a press conference in Aizwal, Mizoram.

A local website hueiyenlanpao has reported that when Mary Kom was talking to the media, she said, "When I won a medal in the Asian Games, no one from Manipur press came to me or called me up. I did not get any support from them when I qualified for the Olympics 2012, whereas I got wholesome support from the national media. I thank the national media for the support that they have given me throughout my career," This outburst has not been taken well by her state media, but the boxer has said that she never made such a remark, and had been misquoted.

Mary Kom expressed disappointment by such an act of the Mizoram press that she has decided to take necessary action against the Mizoram press after discussing the issue with her legal experts, reported e-pao.net. With most of the newspapers carrying such reports of Mary Kom stating her discontentment of not receiving attention from the Manipur press, it would be very difficult to win over the Manipur press, who claim to have have been alongside her, even when she was not a popular figure.

But, in a major controversy that shaped up during the Asian Games trails between Mary Kom and another boxer, Sarita, she feels that the media was partial towards Sarita in the news reports that were published, which hurt Mary Kom. She also showed some kind of disappointment over the prize money that was awarded by the Manipur government - Rs. 75 lakhs for her Olympic feat, whereas other Olympic medal winners received much better prize money than her - running into crores.

With the achievements that the puglist has achieved in the past, which includes an impressive 5 World Boxing Championships, she has been asked by other states to settle in their states as well. She also said, “It's because I love Manipur that I still stand today for the state and have denied all proposals from other states to settle in their respective states,” reported e-pao.net. In order to be on safe side, she also said that the sate government has given her a good job, and helps her a lot.
