Masculinism is gaining momentum
It seems, the projects of women empowerment has been focusing on the domination of women over men. All this is leading to men being oppressed by new hierarchal structures and reverse stereotypes in society.
THE RECENT efforts to empower women and their ways through feminist movements, trainings in gender sensitivity, gender audits of development planning and execution, legislative measures etc., have wrongfully resulted in role reversal and it has revived masculinity with greater vitality.

It seems, the projects of women empowerment has been focusing on the domination of women over men. All this is leading to men being oppressed by new hierarchal structures and reverse stereotypes in society.

Now, in many parts of the world, men are getting organized for gender equity since the scales have turned in favour of women. Thus, a masculinity movement is in the offing.

Masculinists are ruing about the following:
• Recent one-sided legislations and their selective enforcement are leading to neglect of civil rights of and discrimination against men and boys.
• Disproportionate penalties for men as compared women for similar crimes.
• Lack of sympathy for male victims in domestic violence.
• Violence against men is taken less seriously than violence against women. Depiction of violence against men as humorous, in the media and elsewhere when women are also violent.
• Biases in the justice system against men, such as higher incarceration rates and longer sentences for men for the same crimes.

As masclunism perceives that it is usually seen as socially acceptable for a female to try out or follow masculine social norms or being tomboyish, whereas if a male does the same for feminine social norms, like being coy and affectionate, they often attract unwanted attention and are victims of ridicule and insult. This new discrimination has lead to role reversal.

True masculists believe that gender inequality is in giving equal respect for male and female traits. The recent rise of females in the corporate field are the examples of masculinisation of women, rather than giving respect to female traits of caring and sharing as the tools of equally effective ways of living.
