HORRIFIC AND savage revenge violence in central Nigeria took place after sectarian killings in January that had left more than 300 dead in Muslim- dominated villages.
The killers showed no mercy and butchered Christian women and children, like animals, with machetes and torched their houses. Witnesses said the violence began in the mostly Christian village at about 3 a.m. Sunday — an hour when the area should have been under curfew and guarded by the military.
The mass burial of the dead has been performed.
Moving scenes were witnessed as women wailed in the streets of the affected villages as dump trucks carried dozens of bodies toward mass graves. The grieving crowd at the burial ground sang: "Jesus, show me the way."
The local government said that about 400 were killed in the sectarian violence this time.
