Massive earthquake hits China
It seems that nature god's have turned furious on Asia. After the devastating cyclone in Myanmar, a major earthquake has rocked China. It measured 7.8 on the Richter scale and more than 7651 people are feared to be dead.
AT LEAST 7651 people are feared dead and another 900 students buried under the rubbles of the collapsed building of south-west China, when a powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.8 struck the country on Monday (May 12) morning.

The earthquake struck central China at 11:55 Indian Standard Time and sent thousands of people rushing out of their homes into the streets. The earthquake was so strong that its tremors were felt even in the neighbouring countries of Pakistan, Thailand and Vietnam. The centre of the earthquake was in the Sinchuan province.

China’s official Xinhua News Agency reported that four children died when two elementary schools in Chongqing municipality collapsed and one person was killed when the quake toppled a water towel in the neighbouring Sinchuan province.

However, the agency did not give details about the 900 buried students.

The quake also disrupted telecom and power networks in Chengdu, Chongqing and Zhengzhou cities.

Chinese capital, Beijing, was also rattled by the quake. Major buildings in Beijing were immediately evacuated, including the media offices for the organisers of the Olympics, starting this August.

Chinese President, Hu Jintao ordered for the dispatch of the troops to the affected areas to help the quake victims. Premier Wen Jiabao also headed to the epicenter. The soldiers of China’s People’s Liberation Army have been sent to help in the rescue operations.
