A major fire broke out at a factory cum residential complex at Bhiwandi powerloom town of Thane district in Maharashtra. More than 150 people are feared trapped in the building.

Rescue operation has started and at least nine fire tenders and five water tanks have been rushed to the spot to douse the flame.

According to the initial reports, the garment factory and its godown is situated on the first floor of the building. The second and third floor of the building houses residential apartments. A massive fire broke out at around 7:00 am, in the building and is spreading across the floors.

Till now 20 people have been rescued and remaining people are still trapped inside the building. There is only one exit point in the building, so the people have rushed to the terrace for safety.

A fire officer present at the spot where the incident took place said, "We were informed about the fire very late but rushed to the spot. There are no other exits in the building and the people rushed to the terrace for safety. Until and unless the fire is doused they cannot be rescued," as reported by DNA.
