Massive rains, floods and landslides cause havoc in Sri Lanka, India rushes relief material
In Sri Lanka, heavy rains, floods and massive landslides have killed around 100 people with many still missing. The rescue and relief work has started since more than 50000 people have been affected by the disaster. Several thousand people have been evacuated from the affected area.

Sri Lankan foreign ministry has appealed for assistance and relief aid from the United Nations, world community and from other countries. Meanwhile, navy boats and air force helicopters have been pressed into service for rescue and relief work.

Indian PM Narendra Modi has condoled the loss of lives and property in Sri Lanka due to flooding and landslides, stated a press release.

"India condoles the loss of lives and property in Sri Lanka due to flooding and landslides. We stand with our Sri Lankan brothers and sisters in their hour of need. Our ships are being dispatched with relief material. The first ship will reach Colombo tomorrow morning. The second will reach on Sunday. Further assistance on its way," Modi said.
