Match 39: SRH vs RCB - Bangalore on the verge of taking an early exit from IPL 2018
Things couldn't have been worse for Virat Kohli and company as they today take on the confident Sunrisers Hyderabad in match 39 of VIVO IPL 2018 to be played out at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

The batting line up of RCB which includes the likes of Brendon McCullum, AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli might look emphatic on paper but has performed miserably in season 11 of the Indian Premier League so far.

As if the last defeat that RCB suffered at the hands of Chennai Super Kings wasn't enough, Mumbai Indians have won their last two games and pushed themselves up the points table which hasn't helped the Royal Challengers' cause of somehow making it to the playoffs.

Another defeat for RCB would virtually sound the death knell for the Virat Kohli-led side ending their IPL journey for this season. And today's match isn't going to be a cakewalk either for Kohli's boys as the Sunrisers Hyderabad, alongside CSK, have by far looked as the most capable side for lifting the IPL 2018 trophy.

SRH are sitting comfortably at the top-most spot of the IPL 2018 points table with 14 points from seven wins out of the total 9 matches that they have played so far. Their Saturday's win against DD has almost but assured them a berth in the playoffs, with five games still left to play.

Unlike most other teams of IPL season 11, the strength of the Sunrisers doesn't lie only in their batting but has also a lot to do with the performance of the team's bowlers. Not only have SRH bowlers defended low totals but have also prevented the rival teams from getting big scores. The Kane Williamson-led side has lost only 2 matches and that too when the team was chasing totals in excess of 180.

However, apart from skipper Kane Williamson (354) other Hyderabad batsmen have lacked consistency. But with the tournament now progressing from the league stage to the qualifier stage, the others like Shikhar Dhawan (185), Manish Pandey (179) and Yusuf Pathan would have to join the party.

Somewhat a similar picture emerges with RCB if you take a closer look at their batting in IPL 2018 so far, as barring skipper Virat Kohli (357) no other batsman has applied himself. The same can be said about the Bangalore's poor fielding and bowling efforts. Apart from Umesh Yadav (13 wickets) no other bowler has looked penetrative. If things continue the way they are, RCB looks like going down again in today's game unless of course skipper Virat Kohli has something else up his sleeve.
