Matter of chance: India and Pak PMs have birth place in each other's countries
It is a matter of chance that both, the Prime Minister of India Dr. Manohan Singh and the recently elected Nawaz Sharif, and soon to be Prime Minister of Pakistan, have their birth place in each other's countries. Nawaz Sharif was born in village Jaati Umra in Tarn Taran in Punjab of India district while Manmohan Singh was born in village Gah in Punjab of Pakistan.

The term of Indian PM is likely to expire next year and in view of the present circumstances over exposing of Congress with scams over scam, it seems unlikely that the Congress party will come to power. But with the winning of Congress in majority in Karnatka, there is a light of hope among its leaders and workers.

In case the Congress does not come in power, the relations with Pakistan will have to start from zero again as presently both Nawaz Sharif and Manmohan Singh are having a little equation to improve the ties between the two countries.

It looks like democracy, in real terms, has been revived in Pakistan when its Army general himself has used the right to vote and it itself is a sign that army too wants a democratic way of working in Pakistan which has given a strength to the democracy.

Nawaz Sharif, who has come after 14 years  out of power, must have learned his lesson and would not repeat his mistakes from the past. He has a big challenge before him especially when the Pakistan is surrounded with economic and corruption crisis to the problem of Taliban like big forces and how far he is successful only the time will tell.

But in 1998, when Atal Behari Vajpayee was the PM in India, effort made at that time to improve the relations is appreciable. Pakistan has already shown its democratic way of working by putting behind the bar its former President Parvez Musharraf and barring him from contesting any election. Nawaz Sharif has to maintain democractic attitude towards the judiciary and adminstration especially when Parvesh Musharraf has already paid the price for playing a dirty politics of dictatorship.

Let us wish that Manmohan Singh may come for the third term and both PM of India and Pakistan, who have better feeling of the pulse of people of their own country and love for each other country being birth places in each other’s country. It is also hoped that both countries will work hard to improve ties and to establish trade relations and promote peace in South Asia, including its stand on Kashmir issue.
