Maxwell is best T20 player in current form: Karsan Ghavri
Mumbai Indians must be ruing the fact of having allowed their million dollar man, Glenn Maxwell to leave their franchise. Kings XI were aware of Maxwell's batting exploits, so they paid a whopping 6 crores to land the player during the 2014 IPL auctions and they have not been disappointed by the Australian, where he has single-handedly won games for Punjab. Without a shadow of doubt, signing Maxwell has been the best business for Punjab so far.

Maxwell's score in his last three IPL innings reads 95, 89 and 95, which is huge in the shorter version of the game. What amazes us more is the strike rate of 200 at which he is scoring these runs. He is clobbering bowlers all around the park for colossal sixes. In the three innings played so far, he has cleared the fence 17 times. His ruthlessness can be witnessed against both the seamers as well as the pacers, which makes him one of the best in the shorter format of the game.

''In current form, he is the best player plying his trade in the T20 format,'' said Karsan Ghavri, former Indian cricketer, who is a huge fan of the Australian batsman. ''He is a brilliant player and a consistent performer. Apart from everything else, he is hungry for runs. He has got the ability to convert 10s into 20s, 20s to 30s and 40s to 60s,'' said Ghavri.

The way he is batting it would not be far off when we see the Aussie come up with a ton. He has fallen short on all three counts. ''Glenn is capable of coming up with a three figure score with the form he is in,'' added Ghavri.

But the player seems to play for the crowd and not for records. Had he been interested in records, he could have slowed down and got to the three figure mark, which every player dreams of. Scoring a ton in the T20 format is not an easy task. Ghavri said, ''I have been watching the player closely in his last three matches – he is a team man. He does not play for records, else he could have scored one.''

No doubt, mid-wicket seems to be his favourite scoring area, but he comes with a certain strategy while batting, which has been successful for him. He does not give his wicket easily, but occupies the crease and never lets go an opportunity of clearing his left leg and sweeping the bowler for a huge six in the mid-wicket area.

It is due to Maxwell's innings, hopes have increased for the Kings XI Punjab franchise for a maiden title. Why not? They have won three matches on a trot. But Ghavri fels that it is too early for one to call them favourites. Apart from Maxwell, they have players such as Sehwag, Bailey, Miller etc, who needs to step up, when Maxwell fails. Their biggest test would lie when Maxwell fails to deliver. Will these players clear the test?
