May Holi paint lives with bright hues of peace, harmony, prosperity and happiness: Vice President Naidu
In a message, he said, "I convey my warm greetings and good wishes to the people of our country on the auspicious occasion of Holi - the festival of colours."

"Celebrated with traditional fervour and enthusiasm throughout the country, Holi marks the end of winter and onset of spring. On the eve of Holi, the ritual of 'Holika Dahan' symbolizes the victory of good over evil and the bonfire reminds us to get rid of the dead wood and ignoble baggage of thoughts and actions," he added in his message.

He wished, "May this festival paint our lives with the bright hues of peace, harmony, prosperity and happiness."

In West Bengal, Holi is known by the name of "Dol Jatra" and is celebrated in a dignified manner by placing the icons of Krishna and Radha on a picturesquely decorated palanquin which is then taken round the main streets of the city or the village. On this Bengali students dress up in white clothes and wear garlands of fragrant flowers. They sing and dance to the accompaniment of folk musical instruments.

In Shantiniketan, Holi has a special musical flavour. Rabindranath Tagore had introduced Holi as Basant Utsav in Shantiniketan, Birbhum to recreate the magic of the joyous cultural festival. It is now an integral part of Bengali culture. Visitors on Holi are offered traditional dishes that include malpoa, kheer sandesh, basanti sandesh, etc.
