Mayawati plays the blame game

After losing the recent elections, Mayawati and her party, the BSP, are in great shock. She is now blaming the Muslims for her losing the elections. We wonder why she doesn't blame herself for her failure?

Lok Sabha Election News :

NONE OTHER but Mayawati herself is to be blamed for her failure in the Lok Sabha elections. She overestimated her success in the Assembly polls held some two years ago in Uttar Pradesh and instead of consolidating her position, started day dreaming. What has she done for the state and the Muslims during her rule, that she is so annoyed?

The Muslims had extended overwhelming support to her during the last elections but she did nothing for the welfare of the biggest minority in the state. Instead, she credited her success to her social engineering formulae and support from the Brahmin and Dalit communities. She ignored the fact that without Muslims, her successes wouldn’t have been possible, especially if they had supported the Samajwadi Party, which lost by a margin of less than a thousand votes.

What she did for the Muslims can be estimated from the following:

She nominated five of her men to the Rajya Sabha, none of them a Muslim. In the name of minority, a non-Muslim was appointed that too not from UP but from Punjab.
More than a hundred of her men were appointed chairmen and deputy chairmen to various corporations but the Muslims comprised less than one per cent of the total.
Only two or three Muslims could find a place in the state cabinet, which was almost shameful in comparison to the Muslim support to her party, since they had even voted for her non-Muslim candidates in the name of secularism.
The scholarships for the students were curbed almost to half, of which the worst affected were Muslims. Also, no action was taken against the culprits of the scholarship scam.
No development work was undertaken in the Muslim localities, even in the areas such as Bijnore district, where the party bagged seven out of eight Assembly seats.
The madrasa modernisation plan was never undertaken.
Urdu teachers were deprived of the jobs for which they had run from pillar to post and found themselves engaged in court proceedings; the worst affected being the Muslims again.

After all this discrimination, what she is blaming the Muslims for is above the understanding of a common Muslim like me. She was expected to curb the crime rate and corruption in the state and to bring it back on the right track; something which only a stable government can do. In the name of crime control, no FIRs are being lodged; lack of registration of crime can only result in the juggling of statistics, never in real change.

India needs a Prime Minister with a vision for the country, not a juggler or merely a demagogue; for that, Mayawati has still a long way to go. I don't mean that she can’t become Prime Minister. She can, but she has to make some extraordinary efforts to reach that position. Merely blaming others, and claiming herself a daughter of the Dalits being troubled by the bourgeois, isn’t enough. This will only lead to further decline. Even the Dalits, who are better educated, and more liberalised in thought than ever before, will not tolerate this for long. If their expectations remain unfulfilled, they will surely go for an alternative. In such a situation, who will she blame?
