MCG appeals to public to inform them about illegal bore-wells

Coming up with an 'out-of-box' solution, MCG has appealed people in Gurgaon to inform them about any uncovered bore-wells or tube-wells on toll free number 1800 180 1817. This appeal comes after a killer bore-well consumed Mahi, a 4-year-old girl near Gurgaon last month.

UNFORTUNATE DEATH of 4-year-old Mahi after falling in an uncovered bore-well in Gurgaon has forced authorities to think seriously on the matter. Now, Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) is requesting people to inform them about such bore-wells near their areas so that they can be well aware and take actions before any such incident takes place in future.

An MCG official told this citizen journalist that people can use toll free number 1800 180 1817 to inform them about such borewells. The number is also used for registering complaints with the corporation.

Superintending engineer Y K Garg said that any citizen can inform MCG about any bore-well which can harm any life or property on the same number and MCG will take quick action to cover that hole and take action against people responsible. “For quickest action public should cover these manholes themselves even if temporarily, until they take permanent action,” Gard added.

Even though public has welcomed this move but the million dollar question is how can people register complaints when this number is already overloaded with grievances. So the situation demands that a separate number be created for information regarding the menace of uncovered bore-wells and tube-wells. The matter needs to be taken very seriously as Monsoons are on their way and these bore-wells can become even more dangerous.
