In a bid to bring transparency to Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) and make sure contractors don't suffer at the hands of corrupt officials, Sudhir Rajpal has ordered his staff to make sure contractors are paid in time.
IN ORDER to bring more transparency in payments made to the local contractors for civic work, MCG commissioner Sudhir Rajpal has ordered his officials to make sure that they (contractors) are paid on a monthly basis.
The orders were passed as soon as Rajpal heard that payments to contractors are due from last couple of months or more. "It has come to my knowledge that the bills of some contractors are pending for over two months now. I have ordered that all the contractors that are working with us should submit the bills for the work they have done for us at the end of every month. I have also asked the officials in the accounts department to clear the bills every month without fail," commissioner said in a statement.
As per the reports, it is said that most of the contractors have accused several officers of MCG for demanding bribes to release their payments and pass on their bills pending for many months. So to bring more transparency commissioner took this step.
He also warned that in case contractors failed to submit their monthly bills, their payments will also be withheld. This step will also be helpful in tracking contractors' works, which councillors always complain of being incomplete, giving them an opportunity to raise fake bills.
