MCG's public logo proposal gets good response: Merinews report
Residents of Gurgaon have shown keen interest in Municipal Corporation Gurgaon's (MCG) public proposal to submit a logo for the newly-formed civic body. More than 150 logos have been received by MCG so far.
THE MCG being an organization that’s been recently formulated, and working to become a body that can facilitate change and progress in governance in Gurgaon, needs all the brand awareness it can. In order to be more transparent and democratic, it has invited citizens of Gurgaon to propose a logo and to vote logo proposals already submitted on its website.
Despite no advertising, MCG’s logo proposal has generated a healthy response – given that word spread, about the logo requirement, largely through word of mouth. While MCG’s website records a total of 202 logo submissions, after one caters for submissions submitted more than once, MCG has received more than 150 original submissions. Not only have respondents given detailed description about their logo submissions, visitors have also voted on sample submissions. For example, the picture attached with this story is a logo submitted by Sandeep Modi, and has already received votes of 38 people, as per MCG's website.
“This public proposal for a logo for MCG is entirely voluntary. We are not paying for logo submissions. Presently, it’s not been decided if we will pay for the logo that comes via the website,” Sanjay Chugh, a PRO with MCG, told Merinews.com.
“This kind of public invitation is good. Similar thing happened when the Indian government invited symbol proposals for the Indian rupee sign. It had a tremendous public response, and the current rupee symbol is a good one. It’s always good to tap the public’s mind for ideas,” said Ashim Sunam.
Since there’s no last date for the public proposal for the MCG logo, those interested can send their entries by mentioning the following and submitting the same at http://www.mcg.gov.in/MCGPortal/User/UFPublicProposal.aspx

Logos are an important part of an organization's public identity. They are useful in communicating brand values associated with the said objectives of a public entity. Over a period of time, a visually powerful logo tends to result in automatic recognition of a brand. In this context, the present exercise of MCG, in not only having a logo, but one by a member of the civil society, is an empowering step.
