Medanta road accident in Gurgaon: Driver gets bail; social group protests
Residents of Gurgaon have been utterly disappointed, after Haryana Roadways bus driver, Harish Kumar was granted bail even after mowing a 44-year-old cardiologist and three-year-old daughter in Gurgaon recently. Such kind of crimes fall under death by negligence, hence it is a bailable offence. Can such bail be justified?

Gurgaon Moms, a social media group have discussed about this in great detail and they want to do something about it, but they are not aware, as to what exactly needs to be done. ''We can only bring awareness and gather noise, but that is not enough to bring about a change.'' The group have tried to connect with political parties, so they could take up this matter in a greater scale.

Neela Kaushik, founder of Gurgaon Moms is upset with the granting of bail. She said, ''Granting bail is a huge let down to the citizens of Gurgaon. He (driver) deserves severe punishment. The punishment should be such that the other drivers get scared and drive safely on the road. Drivers in Gurgaon drive crazy.''

With such kind of ruling, drivers are not going to change their way of driving on Gurgaon roads, for they are aware that the rules allow them an easy bail. She added, ''It sends a wrong message to other drivers.''

The family members are also disappointed with bail being granted. They are talking to lawyers about it and want the driver to be booked for murder. Neela agrees to it completely and said, ''The family is right. The sequence of events has been such that it more or less looks like a murder only.''

The family can take inspiration from one such case in 2006, where a person was killed after run down by an engineering student. The family took up the matter, raised voice, which later led to the booking of the person for murder.
