Media flirting with desperation?
With an outburst of various news channels running in a 24X7 time span and what used to be a half hour of comprehensive news analysis has paved way for an hour full of entertainment; reiterated annoyance is probably what describes it best.

MEDIA HAS always plugged itself to the mass; simultaneously, it has been one of the roots for driving lives. News channels, reporters, newspapers – have all had a major chunk of contribution in terms of ‘right to information’.

With the escalation in day to day happenings followed with the advancements that each day springs up, it has virtually become critical for news channels to encompass a newer methodology of presentation. However, with the ever so growing demand, it gives an impression that the world of media has been plagued by desperation.

Been asked to follow a score of news channels – Aaj Tak, India TV, News 24 etc – and one gets the idea on how the world has evolved; from going through international and national affairs concerning a nation to narrating a wildlife incident that laps for at least an hour, from sports relevance information to the life that these same names in the business spend outside their arsenal of actions, and from a mere 15 minute astrological round up to an hour of ‘planet matching’ hosted by a black robed man made up to give a creepy exuberance!

Apparently, it either seems to be an evolution of a new age world in the news arena that demands bulletins from scratches of irrelevancy (a half hour show on how people belonging to a particular village caught a tiger!), or perhaps just for the sake of filling the 24 hour slot with something ‘presentable’. The Nithari queued up with the Aarushi case – put up as courtroom dramas by news channels themselves, and accordingly urging masses to build newer dimensions by speculating stories that have led to the result of character assassination – have quantifiably managed to gather more broadcasting than any incident; be it the Sarojini Nagar blasts, the Gujarat riots, or even 9/11.

The feed for these channels is somehow running out, while the nests of entertainment have become the popular hotspots. One of the shows titled ‘Saas, bahu aur saazish’ has successfully augmented Ekta Kapoor’s reign on the television territory, clawing it into the news quadrant as well.

Another headline that reflected on Archana Puran Singh’s infuriation on ‘Comedy Circus II’ became the starlight of the broadcast, as it read ‘Archana ko gussa kyon aaya?”.

Nonetheless, over the recent couple of months, the towering Khali has been making it into the limelight, easily surpassing names like Manmohan Singh and Pratibha Patil. ‘Khali’, who has inevitably roped in torrents of footage and worships credited to media, has the camera following him everywhere; with headlines hankering for his triumph in what is his revenge match, “Khali hisaab chukta karo” – Khali, take your revenge!”

In the opening episodes of ‘news channels’, the format of any news presentation would stream through a flow of headlines (entailing political drama, national and international affairs, sports analysis etc.) that then led into a detailed round up. However, with graduating times, the aptness has been dampened. What used to be a half hour of comprehensive news analysis has paved way for an hour full of entertainment; reiterated annoyance is probably what describes it best.

The entire story is recurred for a number of times before they decide to move on with the next piece. One of the broadcasts had to screen a mock of the lie detection test conducted for almost four times before they advanced to anything else; “Chaliye hum aapko dikhate hain usne apne lie detection mein kya kaha” – Let us show you what was revealed in the lie detection test (followed with the actual video of conduction). “Kya aapne dekha, usne kya kaha?” – Did you listen to the entire incident (another follow up of the same video). “Zara phir se dekhiye usne kya bola” – listen to it one more time (again showing the same video). The similar cycle ran for another couple of times.

Moreover, the cinematic portrayal with high voltage sound effects and equally scaled special effects make the story engrossing and action packed, giving the viewers enough to hold their grip. Crowning information with animation does not only project a whole new experience, but curtails the sobriety that has been the underline of the media world.

The article is interesting but it could have been greatly improved with some editing.Language errors hamper the communication of your ideas.Having said that, let me add that you are right about the banality of the TV channels.Just yesterday Star news spent many hours replaying a few seconds clip of Deepika Padukone hugging Ranbir Kapoor at the bangkok airport.it was easily the stupidest thing have seen on TV.
