Media going down on ethics must redraw values
In earlier times, media was known as voice of common people, it was known as the medium where common people. As the time changed everything became part of marketing, everything was turned into commodities. Now everything runs on advertisement.
EARLIER MEDIA was known as voice of common people, it was known as the medium where common people can place their problems through; it was the medium where one can grab the knowledge about the world. Media built some ethics which were appreciated but with the development and requirement of its growth it is losing its glory. Between electronic and print media, print media was known for its accuracy and its ethics. As the time changed everything became part of marketing, everything was turned into commodities. Now everything runs on advertisement, even free media talks the language of advertisers they are sold out, they promote everything in return of some money.

We are talking about the ethics like what should be shown or written and what shouldn’t be. Earlier it was said that violence should be censored, accidents or crimes should be shown in sketch in yellow colour, news should be such which add to society or help to build a better tomorrow; but now electronic media covers everything which can be of no use to common people but surely it is useful for media channels as they sensitise it and get some advertisement in return. They have forgotten their ethics and duties. I agree that everyone need money to live but what is meant for betterment of society should always be the same; news is not soap opera it is for knowledge where children can learn from, it is to connect the world.

Today, in every leading newspaper one can easily see the advertisement of ‘escorts’ which clearly mentions Russian, Indian, Chinese girls are available for complete body massage, or call-999******* so and so …..” which really make no sense as we read newspaper for news not for these advertisements which is somehow or indirectly encouraging sex trade. Some advertisements are such which can even destroy life of anyone who is in search of a job in metros who is unknown about fact that lies behind these advertisements.

Advertisements like ‘needed +2 pass or graduates who are in search of job call…’or ‘needed handsome boys or beautiful girl for massage parlor, package of 15 to 25K’ which attracts young generation who are desperately in search of job and look for shortcuts, but as they join it they are in no point of returning back to the society as they are pushed to the flesh trade. It is more dangerous for the girls as our society is hard to them. Ultimately it is the media who is responsible for though it writes, ‘We are not responsible for the authenticity of the advertisement’. Now, it is high time that media looks into its faults and retrieve its image as ‘voice of the common people’.
