Media should refrain from wrong-portrayal of Anna Hazare as a supporter of any political party
Kiran Bedi’s endorsement to Modi for Prime Minister of India sparked a huge debate. The supporters of Modi though delighted, opponents of Modi became sharp critic of Kiran Bedi’s support. Electronic media had gone further ahead in speculating the contest in general election 2014. Although saying that the contest is no more Modi versus Rahul, but differ in opining the real two opposing sides.

Some says it’s Modi versus Kejriwal, some says its the Congress plus AAP versus BJP plus Anna and his remaining team. Interestingly some also project that Lok Sabha is between Anna and Kejriwal. Everybody has a right to draw their conclusion, but I feel somewhere Persona Anna is being tarnished putting him in one side for no fault of Anna.

Technically Kiran Bedi is a free citizen and has every right to decide her political allegiance. Reading her support as present Team Anna support is not only ridiculous but also far from fact. Let’s start from beginning to understand why Kiran Bedi’s endorsement is neither Team Anna’s endorsement nor Anna’s support.

If we define ‘Team Anna’, we will find that a group of people were united under the leadership of Anna for a single cause of ‘Jan Lokpal’ movement. This Team Anna comprised of various individuals with different ideologies from extreme left to extreme right. On one side there was Swami Ramdev to other side Swami Agnivesh. However just after start of the revolution first Ramdev distanced and then Agnivesh left the team.

After two years of struggle, the members of Team Anna with inclination to left of centre ideology formed AAP party. Though all united for ‘Jan Lokpal Bill’ but the members with right of centre ideology didn’t want to join AAP due to obvious difference and stayed with Anna as remaining Team Anna.

When the Lokpal bill was passed in the Parliament and accepted by Anna, the ‘Team Anna’ was virtually ceased to exist. Because it was started with a mission and when mission accomplished, the team remains no more! Thus when Kiran Bedi endorsed Modi, she did it not as a member of ‘Team Anna’ rather under her individual democratic right. Similarly others are also free to support their political lines and shouldn’t be treated as Anna’s view as there is no Team Anna that exists.

There might be another ‘Team Anna’ if there is another mission and there may be many other people representing ‘Team Anna’. It needs to be realized that Anna is static Team Anna is mobile. Anna is a very simple, honest and determined persona. Such persona is rare. He is a magnet and whenever there would be another national interest mission, people again will join across ideologies.

May be there is a design by BJP to attract former ‘Team Anna’ member with inclining to right of centre ideology to counter the Congress' effort to prop AAP. Every party has right to strategies and people are the best judge. But why Anna is dragged to political debates?

Anna himself repeated number of times that he is not supporting any party or side and remains neutral. The media should respect his standpoints and refrain to drag his persona in to such debates or electoral politics. All should remember that Anna is a very rare persona at least for last couple of decades and none should harm that persona in painting him as supporter of a particular political party.
