Medium-intensity earthquake strikes coastal areas of India; no damage to life
A medium-intensity earthquake hit Delhi, National Capital Region, Chennai and parts of eastern and northern India on Wednesday night. The magnitude of the quake was measured to be as 6 on the Richter scale. There are no reports so far of any damage to either property or any harm to life till now from any parts of the country.

The epicentre of the quake was 275 kilometers south-east of Paradip, Odisha and 39 kilometers deep. The report of jolts were experienced in cities like Ranchi, Kolkata, Gaya, Bhubaneswar, Chennai and Vishakapatnam. Even the Delhi-NCR regions felt the tremors. According to the Hyderabad-based Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services, the magnitude of the quake was 5.8, as reported by Hindustan Times.

People in the coastal areas in cities like Srikakulam, Cuttak and Bhubaneswar came out from their houses and took shelter on the streets. In Chennai tremors were observed in areas like Adyar, Porur, Kodambakkam, Triplicane, T Nagar and Nungambakkam. The incident took place at around 9:50 pm and the tremor was felt for 5-10 seconds.
