Meena Bazaar : The Charm Of Jama Masjid
Built in the late 1970's, Meena bazaar is one of the busiest markets in Delhi with its endless stock of various items.
JAMA MASJID charms visitors from all over the world and part of its charm is its bazaar known as Meena Bazaar. Meena bazaar evokes a medieval charm and elegance, and according to the history books, it was the bazaar where the royal ladies used to come for shopping for their cloths, silk, jewels and especially for matching bangles. The mughal era’s quaintness is the character of this bazaar, full of beautiful things.
 
This market is located just below the massive stairs on the eastern end of Jama Masjid. Built in the late 1970’s, Meena bazaar is one of the busiest markets in Delhi with its endless stock of various items.
 
The shops of Meena bazaar on both sides sell items like embroidered caps for men, local cosmetics, pictures and posters of Islam and readymade garments like burquas for women. Apart from this there are many dhabhas and food stalls which serves delicious mughlai foods and non- vegetarian food like kebabs, biryani, nahari, tikka, haleem, chicken curry, and many more and one can finish a meal with sweet dishes like gulab jamuns, jalebis , keer etc.
 
The specialties of the market were quilts, exclusive carpets, pashmina shawls, pardahs, zari and brocade work, ornaments made of precious stones and spices. This bazaar offers enormous scope for shopping to the tourists.
 
The market is the best place in Delhi for buying traditional Muslim attires. Meena bazaar is also a very attractive place for women who tend to buy good stuff at cheap rates. The Market is open on all days except for Sundays, but during festivals like Id and Ramzan it is open everyday till the festival ends.
 
To reach to this market: local buses, auto rickshaw and taxis are available from different parts of Delhi.The nearest metro station is Chawri bazaar and the nearest railway station is Old Delhi railway station.
