Meet Sekar, India's `Birdman' who feeds four thousand parakeets everyday
Known as India's `Birdman', Sekar who runs a camera repair business in Chennai has been feeding thousands of parakeets twice a day for the last ten years, spending almost 40 percent of his income on bird food. His life revolves around these birds. He cannot go anywhere as he has to prepare food for his birds twice a day with his own hands.

Sekar moved to Chennai 25 years back and established his camera repair business. Ten years ago when a tsunami struck Chennai, two Parakeets arrived at his home and he fed them. Those two parakeets brought ten more and soon they multiplied to hundred and then to thousands. Depending upon the season, almost four thousand parakeets come everyday to eat at his house.

Sekar wakes up at 4.30 am every morning to start preparing food for his parakeets, who arrive at 6.00 am to eat. 60 kgs of food is required everyday which costs at least Rs 500. Sekar also nurses injured birds to health by keeping them in cages. He is known more as India's `Birdman' than someone who repairs cameras. Devraj, Sekar's neighbour says that it is a sight to behold to see thousands of parakeets flocking to eat at his place. Passers-by stand and are awestruck by the sight.

Sekar is a committed individual who continues to feed these birds although it is increasingly becoming difficult for him as he ages. He says that just like people cage birds, these birds have caged him, as he finds it difficult to give up feeding them.

It is pleasant to see that in this materialistic world where humans don't have time for fellow humans, people like Sekar dedicate their lives for birds without any selfish motive. Perhaps this is what being human truly means.
