MERCEDES-BENZ on Thursday (May 13) launched new gasoline engine technology called C 200 CGI, replacing C 200 Kompressor in its C-Class cars. The technology uses petrol direct-injection engine with spray guided combustion process. This new technology will enable engine to run with high excess air, thus increasing the fuel efficiency.
This direct petrol injection system has fast piezoelectric injectors that enable multiple injections per power stroke ensuring lean-burn operation for a better fuel efficiency of the engine.
The new technology has the following benefits:
Mileage increased to 11.74 km/liter (plus seven per cent).
CO2 emission reduced to 201g/km (minus seven per cent).
Output increased to 137kW at 5600rpm (plus five per cent).
Bottom-end torque increased to 285 Nm at 2400-4000 rmp from 240 Nm at 3500-4500 rmp.
In the engine with CGI technology during each power stroke, a series of injections takes place, spaced just fractions of a second apart, improving mixture formation, combustion and fuel consumption.
The C 200 CGI is priced at Rs 28.44 lakh ex-showroom Mumbai.
Dr Wilfried Aulbur, managing director and chief executive officer of Mercedes-Benz India said, “The C-Class is in most cases the first touch point of customers with our brand. Mercedes-Benz stands for exciting products and cutting edge technologies; what better way to reinforce this promise than by offering the C 200 CGI as the harbinger of the CGI revolution in gasoline engines.”
