Mercedes Benz launches its sub-brand Maybach in India
In a double treat for those who love the three-pointed star, Mercedes Benz yesterday introduced its sub-brand Maybach in India, with two models.

The Maybach S600 which will be a CBU (Completely Built up Unit) and will cost Rs 2.6 cr, while the locally assembled MM S500 will come at a price of 1.67 cr. The MM S500 will be assembled at the Chakan plant near Pune. Both prices are ex-showroom Pune.

Now India becomes the second country after Germany, where Mercedes Maybach (MM) will be produced. The MM S500 is the most expensive luxury car to be produced in India, leaving other players like Audi and BMW far behind.

Eberhard Kern, the outgoing MD and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India said, "We have received a huge response to the MM S600 and have sold out the entire allocation of 2015 within the two weeks since the news of its launch was announced."

Roland Folger will replace Eberhard Kern on October 1, who will take up a new position in the company at Brussels.

Mercedes Benz wants to tap the highest luxury car segment buyers and compete with the other two major players of this segment, namely Bentley and Rolls Royce. The MM S500 will be the eighth model to roll out of the Chakan facility.

Key features:

The Maybach will have inflatable rear seat belts which will reduce the pressure on the rib-cage on frontal impact.

The MM S600 has a V12 six-litre bi-turbo engine and the S500 has a V8 4663CC bi-turbo engine.
