Merinews article by Lalit Kishore on women empowerment cited in study of Filipino women workers
The study "The Level of Empowerment of Overseas Filipino Women Workers" by Elizaer Christian E Cabilan and associates related to the level of empowerment of overseas Filipino women workers in Davao City and other parts in Mindanao in Philippines cited the Merinews article by Lalit Kishore on women empowerment.

The introductory to the study says that while 'globalization has contributed to an increasing flow of migrant workers from countries with limited economic opportunities to fill gaps in nations with a dwindling' labour supply, on the other hand, 'it also bears great risks ?such as harsh working and living conditions, low wages, illegal withholding of wages and premature termination of employment. The worst abuses force women into sexual slavery.'

The authors of the study which citing the article of Kishore (2009) "What is women's empowerment all about", put forward  that the experts on gender issues hold that women's advancement involves the process of empowerment and define it as a process, by which women achieve increased control over public decision making. And, empowerment occurs when women achieve increased control and participation in decision making that leads to their better access to resources, and therefore, improved socio-economic status.

The abstract while highlighting empowerment issues finds a significant difference between the level of empowerment and age, educational attainment, occupation and range of wage or salary.  The 'Cabilan full manuscript - Philippine Statistics Authority' is available at
