“Traffic in Delhi is a big problem and something should be done about it”, “the worst thing about Delhi is its traffic”, “I am sure you won’t reach on time because of the heavy traffic on roads”, this is what people used to complain about Delhi and its biggest problem – the traffic. But as they say that nothing is permanent, Delhiites soon got a relief from their problems and an answer to their questions – The Delhi Metro.

It brought with itself a revolution in Delhi; life became a little easier, less hectic and it seemed as if the corners of the city have started meeting. The first line of Delhi metro started in Dec 2002. Since then it has covered a major portion of Delhi with connecting different lines.

With the red, yellow and blue line operational at present three more are to start in 2010 itself. The violet, green and the much waited Airport Express Line. Delhi metro recently crossed borders and extended its line to Noida. The Gurgaon line will has its trial run today.

Delhi metro has made it possible for people to travel from Rohini to Dwarka, Ashok Vihar to Noida, Mayur Vihar to Rajouri without worrying about the traffic on roads. Not only that, now girls can commute till late without getting worried about their safety and security. It has brought smiles to the faces of its citizens and surely a big reason to feel proud of.

Every city has its own reason to worry and feel proud of. Mumbai also has a new something new. Its new monorail that will be operational by Dec 2010 is in news all over. The city already has it local trains but monorail will be running in highly congested areas. The capacity will be 500 with 4 coaches and 700 with 6 coaches attached.

These are all a signs of development of our country. We are no more a country of snake charmers. We have come across a long way and still have a long journey to complete. This is just the beginning. Citizens of our country should understand this development cannot be possible without our support. So we should all come forward and help making all this success.

Like the Delhi Metro has earned a name for itself I hope.
