Mexico quake killed none but military helicopter crashed on the survivors killing 14
As a powerful earthquake struck Mexico, rescue emergency services were deployed immediately but unfortunately, one of the rescue helicopters crashed leaving 14 people dead and 21 others injured on the ground.

Among the deceased, at least three were children. Though the earthquake of magnitude 7.2 is over, but the fear of aftershocks after such a powerful earthquake had compelled the people to sleep in the open and not in their houses.

The helicopter was a military helicopter and was ferrying officials who were assessing the damage that was caused by the earthquake. As the helicopter was preparing to land, the pilot lost control and it came crashing down on vehicles that were on the ground and in which some of the earthquake survivors were sleeping.

The helicopter survivors were left injured but no casualty among them was caused. The helicopter was carrying Interior Secretary Alfonso Navarrete and Oaxaca State Governor Alejandro Murat, who were assessing the damage that the earthquake had caused.

Both of them reportedly escaped unhurt. Citizens of Mexico have blamed the authorities for the crash. Questions have been raised as to why the helicopter attempted to land in a dark field given that the helicopter was merely 100 feet from the ground at the time it was attempting to land.

Mexico has been witnessing powerful aftershocks after the earthquake with one of the aftershocks having a magnitude of 5.9

While the earthquake did not cause any casualties, the crash has now left people shocked. This is the second powerful earthquake that has struck Mexico in less than six months with two powerful earthquakes in September which left more than 400 people dead.

Reports have also claimed that before attempting to land, the helicopter circled the area a number of times giving rise to dust which could have later affected visibility when it attempted to land. And as it touched ground, the helicopter skidded hitting vehicles that were packed with people.
