Miandad ignored in PCB coaching programmes
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has ignored the batting legend Javed Miandad while selecting coaches for the short camps it is organising for batsmen, fielders, and bowlers.
PCB HAS recently appointed chief selector Mohsin Hasan Khan, Ijaz Ahmed, former pacer Sarfraz Nawaz, and maestro leg-spinner Abdul Qadir to train the selected cricketers from July 3.
Talking to Islamabad Dateline Saturday, a source felt that Miandad, should have been given this assignment that was offered to the chief selector Mohsin Hasan Khan and Ijaz Ahmed. “Mohsin Hassan Khan or Ijaz Ahmed do not match the calibre of Miandad. What more do you need when you have a batting icon known the world over is sitting idle under the nose of PCB top brass.”
The source questioned the job of giving batting coaching jobs to Mohsin Khan or Ijaz Ahmed in the presence of Javed Miandad. “Miandad has offered to coach the
youngsters at grass-roots level many a time but the PCB did not listen to him or acted on his advice and suggestions from time to time,” the source said. The source said Miandad is just like a dummy in the PCB who is doing nothing for the promotion of cricket in the country despite his repeated request to give cricket matter in his hands quite often.
“At present, Waqar Younis is the national head coach who is assisted by Aqib Javed. They both are bowlers. If they cannot deliver to the satisfaction of the PCB then what is the use of carrying two bowling coaches at a time,” the source questioned. “If their training is up to the mark, then our bowlers are unable to avoid so many extra runs they are used to give in their international matches?” The source felt that Ijaz Butt wanted to hurl insult on Miandad by appointing him as a batting coach under Waqar Younis, it is then obvious for Miandad to refuse that job.
“How on earth can you tame Miandad to coach under Waqar’s supervision? Yes, it could vice versa?” The source disclosed that the chairman PCB has appointed the
governing body members of the PCB as presidents at regional level cricket which had not been a practice at any cricket’s body.
“Some of the governing body members including the PCB chairman are destroying the Pakistan cricket,” the source added. “Butt does not consult Maindad in any matter that is utter disgrace for a person like Maindad as can give healthy opinions improving Pakistan cricket.” When contacted PCB spokesperson, Nadeem Sarwar said he has no idea why Miandad was not offered the job.“It is a small coaching course”. This scribe could not get PCB chief operating officer Subhan Ahmed on phone which did not respond.
The source disclosed that Miandad was also present in the PCB governing body meeting but was not offered the job for the course though he has offered many times to coach the youngsters, in the past.
“It is not the domain of the PCB chairman to take every decision on his own about cricket himself then why they stage a drama of BoG and other meetings. He should have sought the opinion of all senior former players including the PCB DG in this matter.”
