FORMER PAKISTAN Captain, Javed Miandad strongly feels that there is a serious possibility of matches being fixed in the cash rich Indian Premier League. The swashbuckling batsman further added that he considers the IPL Twenty20 as a joke.

Maindad said that the IPL, which is being played in South Africa has provided some suprising results where a number of games have been lost from winning positions. He feels that something fishy is going on in the IPL where strange things are taking place, reported a leading newspaper.

Maindad said, "I dont consider the IPL as cricket, it is a joke." He added that it is strange that players who aren't regular bowlers are picking up hat-tricks in matches and teams, which are all set to win are gifting away the matches from winning positions. He feels that ICC should step in and check possible corruption in the mega event.

He said that if at all such Twenty20 cricket leagues, involving large chunks of money, are played, they should be held under the direct supervision of the ICC or else there would always be a fear of corruption taking place. He wasn't happy as the ICC's anti corruption unit was not not present in the IPL despite the big money at stake along with a number of foreign players invovled in the tournament.

Earlier ICC had offered to have the anti corrupton unit to supervise this year's IPL but the IPL organisers had rejected the offer and have arranged their own security and anti corruption officers. The ICC has asked for USD 1.2 million from the Indian board to cover the costs of their ACU activities in the IPL.

Maindad, also a former coach of the Pakistan team said that the ICC must stop the IPL because it was damaging the fabric of the sport and forcing the players to change their loyalties, giving an example of Chris Gayle who reached England for the test match just two days before the match, which the West Indies lost badly and was an insult to test cricket. Last but not the least, he said that now if the IPL does not involve and step in the IPL then the traditional forms of cricket would be damaged to a great extent.

Getting harsh on the Indian board he said that the IPL has forced the players to put the money above the country and only the Indian board and its players are gaining from it whereas it has no financial benefits for the other boards.

Its not fair & we need not consider the remarks made by Miandad,Obviously he does not have rights to question the security arrangements considering what happened at their own back yard with srilanka we all know what he is & what qualities he has expressed on & off the field. If at all pakistan players were playing the IPL much of this commenting would have not been there. In this hour of fast food & fast lanes its no wrong in having a version which ends at a faster rate.IPL is a young format & evrything cannot be perfect right from the word go.if at all the matches were fixed Mr Shah rukhs Khan team would not have been doing badly nor would have mallyas team in the last IPL.As far as ethics i am sure IPL has set a good example by fitting in the Kingfisher fairplay award, which has kept a real watch on the palyer behaviour. As far player participation is concerned ICC should be smart enough to create a FTP to see that nobody is affected by the version.as indians we should feel proud that we designed a format which has all the makings of getting big with football.Lets have the test matches for pure qualtiy, but we cannot have pure desi ghee always no,so for a change lets have IPL also

IPL is death of Cricket. Cheerleaders; odd bowling & batting; no cricket ethics; everything is money there. No wonder Government refused to give security to greatest gambling of cricket.
