Essien got injured while training on International duty at the tournament in Angola. Essien, the Ghana player came back at Chelsea's Cobham training ground this week, where the medical staff carried out the necessary examination on the affected knee.
Essien;s injury is not only a blow for Chelsea, but also for Ghana who were hoping that he would recover and be fit to play their vital group clash with Burkina Faso. They managed to reach the quatr finals by winning the match 1-0, but Essiens absence would weaken their side for the knock out stages.Chelsea's boss Carlo Ancelotti was very keen to have the midfielder back on the field within a month but admitted that the healing might take more time. He said that Essien had a tear in the meniscus and would not be available for 4 to 6 weeks.Essien would miss Chelsea's Barclays Premier League match against rivals Arsenal at Stamford Bridge and also the opening leg of their Champions League against Inter Milan.
