Michael Jackson: Still alive after two years of his death
The singer, artiste and the rock star would always be known as the King as he truly rules the hearts of millions with his songs. However, it is sad that his personal life took precedence over his excellent music but that only adds to his mystique.
SINCE THE entire life of Michael Jackson has been under the scanner - we know what happened when in his life - yet what we don’t know is how it all began. When Oprah Winfrey asked Katherine Jackson (MJ’s mother), whether she saw any signs that the seventh Jackson was different or to be a star - Mrs Jackson replied in affirmative. She said that she always knew that Michael was special as when he was really small he would dance to the noise of a rickety washing machine and add music to that noise. An aspiring musician herself, by this she identified his passion for singing and dancing. That was the beginning of something that would spread as Jackson mania in the entire world.

On second death anniversary on June 25, everyone remembers Michael Jackson as a person who conquered the global world not only with his music but also with his controversial personal life and his zeal of being different. As we all know, he is the King of rock and roll, and with his death, he has left a vacuum in many a people’s heart and not just his family’s. It has been two years but still sister La Toya believes that he was murdered and that Michael Jackson knew about it. She also believes that the accused, Michael Jackson’s private physician, Conrad Murray, is just the fall guy of the group who planned his murder.

These are the unanswered questions that shroud the death of Michael Jackson, a life which gave so much to its audience but asked for so little in return. He did not arrive overnight, and had his own share of struggle in the early years. Eventually, starting off with his brothers as the Jackson 5, it was in 1979 that he released his first solo album that gave him four US top ten hits. After that there was no looking back. While on one hand his music career was growing, he was also making a special place in the audience’s heart as he used to donate large sums of money to the charity. It was in 1984 that he was invited to the White House by the then president Ronald Reagan for an award for his work in the charity.

It was in 1992, when he established the Heal the World Foundation. This gave money to the underprivileged children in war stricken countries, and also took children in America for a fun day in the theme park that the singer had built for them on the grounds of the foundation. To many, his was a glamorous world but he was truly and innately a lost soul.

Having suffered during his childhood at the hands of a tyrannical father he had many complications, which money or fame could not do away with. Although he said that the discipline that he received from his father did immense good for him and his career but he also admitted to Oprah on her show that he was so afraid of his father, Joe Jackson, that he would feel nauseated as soon as he used to come face to face with him. In his autobiography, Moonlight, too, he talks about this. In the book we get a glimpse of the lost soul and what led him to have the surgeries, which he had on his nose and chin.

All his life he was hounded with controversies, which still hound him - especially when he is supposed to rest in peace. After being addicted to drugs, much later in life, in 2003, he was arrested on charges of child sexual molestation but after a much high profile trial he was acquitted. In the last few days he could sense that he was nearing his death as he told his sister, “La Toya, I'm going to be murdered for my music publishing catalogue and my estate.” Even his children knew that something was amiss. The heart wrenching speech given by one of his daughters at his funeral showed that he was truly a loving father.

His life mirrors so much mystery that the press cannot help but keep a tab on it. He touched so many people’s life, which became all the more apparent when after the news of his death broke, twitter received 5,000 tweets per minute. The man still lives on through his music, children and his charities and even though it has been two years his death still draws tears from his fans.
