Michael Phelps, the greatest swimmer retires gracefully
With a population of more than 1.2 billion, Indian sports-persons have managed to win only 23 medals from all their Olympic appearances, including the ongoing London Olympics, while Michael Phelps, an American swimmer has won 22 medals in just three appearances.

MICHAEL PHELPS, the greatest swimmer, America ever produced after wining his last gold in medley relay at London announced his retirement from international swimming events on Saturday.

The American who participated in the last three Olympics has 22 medals in his Bag with 18 gold. What an achievement! The US has a population of 310 million on May, 2012 while India has a population of more than 1.2 billion. Despite this vast difference, India stands no way near the US' medal tally.

Till date, India has bagged 23 medals since their participation in Olympics from 1900 and most of these medals were from Hockey, though this time they were beaten very mercilessly in all their games.

India, as a Mahan Country with so much of the population has just won 23 medals while Phelps, an individual has won 22 medals in his three appearances. Isn’t shameful? The reasons for the poor performance are mainly attributed to wrong selection, lack of training/ self confidence, infrastructure and general physique of our sportsmen.
