A DEAL which had been lying on the papers for long has finally taken shape. World-leading software giant Microsoft Corporation, has signed an ambitious deal to challenge the might of Google Inc.’s search engine service which is way ahead of competitors. According to sources, the deal between Yahoo and Microsoft Corporation  will focus on an Internet search partnership that will endeavour to cut the market share of Google Inc. in the area of search. Microsoft Corporation, the world leader in software technology had been in talks with Yahoo for long. The ten-year deal was announced on Wednesday (July 29), and it presents a slew of opportunities for both Yahoo and Microsoft Corporation.

The ambitious deal will offer a platform for Microsoft to launch one of its services in the searches domain - Bing. It will also offer an opportunity for Microsoft to gradually convert Yahoo's traffic over to Bing. By offering its search engine to Microsoft, Yahoo will receive 88 per cent of the revenue generated from different sources such as search advertisement sales for the first five years. Besides, it will also have the authority to sell advertisements on some of the leading sites of Microsoft Corporation.

Reacting to the deal, Microsoft Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer said, “Microsoft and Yahoo know there’s so much more that search could be, this agreement gives us the scale and resources to create the future of search.” Yahoo’s head honcho, Carol Bartz, was delighted with the deal and sounded positive about the future of the deal. She said, “This agreement comes with boat loads of value for Yahoo, our users and the industry and I believe it establishes the foundation for a new era of Internet innovation and development."
