MICROSOFT HAS proudly announced the release of its Windows Embedded Standard 7 (WES7), talking up its 'unique branded experience', immersive technology and componentised format. The customizable form of the Windows 7 operating system has been released to manufacturing. The announcement was made on Tuesday at the Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley in San Jose.
By using the embedded version of Windows, manufacturers can build links between devices such as industrial controls, thin clients and digital signage, and Windows-based PCs, servers and online services. Also a connectivity can be developed between Windows-based computers and consumer devices with the embedded software such as set-top boxes and TVs.
The newly released WES7 allows consumers to merge multimedia content from disparate sources including the Internet and broadcast TV, social media portals, and personal libraries of photos and music.
It was reported that a number of manufacturers have already committed to using the embedded software, including Hewlett-Packard and Wyse Technology, which are building Windows Embedded Standard 7 into thin clients. Windows 7 will let OEMs add things like touch, parental controls and other security features to devices, and in some cases it might also add a blue screen and perhaps a warning message.
