'Milenge Milenge' is badly written and looks amateur. The way Priya's character is established in the opening credits is quite pass???. Subsequent series of events completely bore you. The film has stereotyped characters and monotonous dialogues.
IN 2001, a John Cusack movie called ‘Serendipity’ touched the hearts of all diehard romantics. It was about destiny bringing two lovers back together. Soon enough it caught the attention of Indian producers. Boney Kapoor and Satish Kaushik decided to go ahead with their own version. But as destiny could have it, the film, ‘Milenge Milenge’, got delayed for years before it could finally get a release now.
Interestingly, in the meantime, another Bollywood version of ‘Serendipity’ called ‘Hum Phir Milein Na Milein’, starring a now successful TV actor Sarwar Ahuja, released last year. And like destiny could have it, that film too could release only after a good two-year delay. Does that make it a jinxed subject? That is a tricky question. But then one thing that can be answered for certain is – both are bad products for the times they were released in.
While ‘Hum Phir Milein Na Milein’ was understandably a B-grader, ‘Milenge Milenge’ had all the funds of Boney Kapoor at its disposal. But that didn’t help director Satish Kaushik to make a good enough film. Not for 2010, neither for 2005, when it was originally supposed to release. ‘Milenge Milenge’ is too loud for a love story. And if you thought it could have been okay for those times, I could come up with great examples for the same year when films were not half as loud.
To get the story precisely, ‘MM’ is about two youngsters Priya and Immy who meet each other in Bangkok and fall in love. However, when Priya (Kareena) gets to know that Immy (Shahid) used her diary to know what all she liked so that he could impress her, she dumps him. Immy manages to convince her to give him one more chance. And Priya writes her name in a book and Immy’s name in a Rs 50 note and gives it away to different people, adding that if they ever get back those two items it would mean destiny wants them to be together.
‘Milenge Milenge’ is badly written and looks amateur. The way Priya’s character is established in the opening credits is quite passé. Subsequent series of events completely bore you. The film has stereotyped characters and monotonous dialogues. Add to it, Himesh Reshammiya’s music does not click. The film is shot and edited very inconsistently. On a scale of performance, the actors fare averagely. Neither Shahid nor Kareena are given any scope to strike a difference. Shahid funnily has a serious hangover of Shahrukh Khan considering this is one of his earlier films. Kareena is ok.
Overall, ‘Milenge Milenge’ falls short on any expectation that you may have. The only positive factor that it has on its side is the curiosity of checking out Shahid and Kareena together for probably the last time. Stay a mile away from ‘Milenge Milenge’.
