Mime artist Haque receives Sangeet Natak Academi Award
The well known mime artist of Northeast region and who single handedly popularise mine in the region Moinul Haque, has been named as one of the recipients of the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for the year 2009.
MOINUL HAQUE, a well known mime artist of Northeast region and who single handedly popularise mine in the region has been named as one of the recipients of the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for the year 2009 on Tuesday (February 16).

As a mono actor Moinul Haque entered into this field in early 1970, but soon he formed a group called ‘Sound and Comedy’. Haque is a self taught mime artist and he has given thousands of performances throughout the country and has succeeded in winning accolades everywhere.

To share his expertise and experience, Haque founded the first ever mime institute of Northeast the ‘Mime Academy’ in 1991. The institute has produced a number of mime actors, whose work has already been recognised.

On receiving the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Moinul Haque said that the award would encourage him more to propagate this art form. He also said that he dedicate this award to the people who have been pointing out his mistakes and praising his excellence as true friends, philosophers and guides.

In the field of mime, Moinul Haque is a Senior Fellowship holder from the Department of Culture, Government of India for his earnest, immense work with the children from the Deaf and Dumb School at Guwahati. Moinul Haque is also a regular visiting expert for various acting institutions in the Northeast of India.
