UPA CHAIRPERSON Sonia Gandhi will travel in the economy class while flying to Mumbai on Monday (Sept 14), according to party sources. Gandhi, who is also the President of the Indian National Congress would be taking the flight to go to Mumbai for a party function.

The leader had been instrumental in launching an austerity drive in the party in the wake of drought in various parts of the country. At present, there is a drought situation as well as election weather in which the political parties want to be close to interact with people.

The drive has also gained momentum in the government with several ministers flying in economy classes. Pranab Mukherjee took the low cost Spice jet flight. On Sunday, external affairs minister SM Krishna announced that he will not take private aircraft and would travel on commercial flights for his overseas trips, while his colleague Sharad Pawar took to the economy class like others.

Instead of such an austerity drive that would last for mere days, its changes in policy which would change the present conditions of the country, that should be undertaken. They should work on checking the rising prices, or lessening starvation conditions. It is only these which will be beneficial to the Aam Admi and the middle class people.
