In the backdrop of a love story, 'Mirzya' is full of drama and action sequences that keep the story moving. It has a poetic narrative mainly due to the involvement of Gulzar and Shankar-Ehsan-Loy. While this is what makes 'Mirzya' different from all, the experiment might not go well with all types of audiences.
However, as a director, Mehra has successfully given debutants, Harshvardhan and Saiyami, an opportunity to shine. The actors make their presence felt throughout the film and will surely give tough competition to existing actors in the industry in near future. However, Mirzya's much dramatic nature and poetic presentation sometimes go overboard. In fact, due to its experimental nature, it has very less appeal for the audience until one is very much interested in motion poetry.
The plot of the film revolves around Suchi/Suchitra (Saiyami Kher) and Monish (Harshvardhan Kapoor). They are childhood friends but a horrific crime leads to their separation. Years after Suchi comes back to her country to marry a royal prince - Karan (Anuj Choudhary), but ends up falling in love with Adil, who is actually Monish - the same childhood friend. Now, how the events unfold further forms the crux of the story.
When it comes to the performance, Kapoor's son has shown his brilliance. His eyes have done the task in most of the scenes. As far as Saiyami Kher is concerned, she is also no less than Harshvardhan. However, the drawback is, although they belong to families with Bollywood background, the duo has failed to bring out the chaos, seriousness, or the actual drama, the film and its plot require.
'Mirzya' ensures an impressive visualization, but fails to bring in a poignant love-story that would have done a better justice with the entire artwork. Overall, 'Mirzya' presents stunning visuals, and great performances by lead actors are assets of the film. But, the treatment is just not made for everyone and will only appeal the niche who has an interest in poetry, folk tales and mysticism.
