London is in no mood to compromise with security for the Olympic Games. Hence, they have decided to even deploy surface to air missiles at various locations near the Olympic stadium. Along with it, around 13, 500 military personnel would also be deployed during the Games.
The missile, which would be installed on the rooftop of the Lexington Building has been designed to bring down helicopters, as reported by the BBC. London, in recent past has been attacked by terrorist organizations, so it is understandable, when the security around the venue has been beefed up with an alert eye over all the visitors. Snipers would also be positioned at various strategic points and they might have to shoot down the pilot, if any aircraft, involved in a terrorist activity, is flying low.
Along with it, a huge number of defence personnel have also been deployed for the Games. Majority of them would be from the Police, while the Army would also contribute a significant manner. A total of around 13,500 personnel would provide cover for the athletes and the tourists during the games. Hence, it is no surprise when we have been hearing about the budget for the games exceeding its original limit.
Trained dogs are also going to be used during the games. These sniffer dogs would be deployed at airports, hotels and various locations around the country. They are capable of sniffing explosives at crowded places.
