Jagabandhu Majhi belonged to ruling BJD party of Orissa state assembly representing Umarkot assembly constituency was shot dead today at about 12:30 pm by unknown persons.
A RULING Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Jagabandhu Majhi was shot dead by unknown assailants at 12.30 on Saturday. The incident took place at near Gona village bordering Chhattisgarh and 20 kilometres from Raigarh block of Umarkot assembly constituency.
Majhi was about to distribute the land stretches to the landless at Gona village today. His personal security officer (PSO) Pinku Patro and another man from Anchala village also sustained bullet injuries and died on the spot today. The young M.L.A Jagabandhu Majhi was instrumental for taking the lead for restoration of tribal lands from the non-tribals. During the period of agitation programmes way back 2001-2002 six tribals were shot dead in two different incidents of police firing and many more sustained bullet injuries.

The police sources are suspecting that the MLA was shot dead today by none other than the same people those who opened fire way back 2006 and handicapped him from the legs. The state government even decided to provide medicare to Jagabandhu Majhi in China, that is what he told this CJ few months back. Majhi later on went on to became a significant representative in the state when he sustained bullet injuries way back 2006 in his spinal cord and the lower portion of his body became senseless. He was passing urine and stool in two separate bags, one for passing urine and other one for passing stool.
