MLA Jena files petition to attend assembly session

THE CONGRESS MLA Ramesh Chandra Jena from Sanakhemundi Assembly segment of Ganjam District in Orissa confined in Bramhapur circle jail on charges of murder, filed a written petition before the Orissa High Court pleading for permission to attend the on going assembly session. The Orissa High Court on June 29, 2010, directed the council to present the government’s response by July, 12, 2010. Jena sought the direction of the government to allow him to attend the Budget session in pursuance of the summons issued to him. Jena is in circle jail for alleged involvement in the sensational murder case of Rabi Narayan Behera (Chicken Rabi) at Bramhapur. The police had to face innumerable difficulties in getting the MLA under judicial custody. Finally the MLA who was hiding himself at Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh under two town police station limits arrested with the strength of warrant and was confined to judicial custody.
The assembly session which commenced on June 22, would continue till August 7, 2010. Earlier when the MLA Jena was in jail permitted by the high court to cast his vote in Rajya Sabha Poll held on June 17, 2010. The government also permitted him to cast his vote but under heavy police escort.
