the Major League Baseball's bat varieties will greatly be curtailed. Maple bats, in particular may be on the way out, as there have been several accidents regarding ultra thin maple bats shattering and their pieces causing injuries.
IT HAS been reported that the Major League Baseball's bat varieties will greatly be curtailed. Especially the maple bats will be subjected to the new regulations. There have been several incidents in the past wherein ultra thin maple bats have shattered and the pieces have dangerously been flung in the air.
The new rules completely eliminate the use of ultra thin maple bats in MLB matches of the future. Presently, more than 30 companies manufacture such bats, but with this new ban, they will be prohibited from manufacturing such bats.
Another regulation which has been enforced pertains to MLB players whose bat has been broken more than 10 times in 2009. For all these Major Leaguers, they require consulting with the MLB panel and union, before carrying the same make of bat to the stadium again. What’s more, the bat specifications are being changed from 2.75 inches to 2.61 inches as maximum diameter.
