Mobile devotional singers of intercity express train
For India it is rightly said, in every kilometer you will find diversity in culture, traditions and heritage. People from different places come together and chant devotional hymns to spread the message of love and brotherhood in our country.
OUR’S IS an amazing nation a nation with myriad diversity. If you happen to visit Mathura, you will find numerous temples with devotees from across the world paying their obeisance, visit Ajmer Sharief and you will see people cutting across religious line offering their devotion at the dargah. If you are looking for historical monuments, Agra will strike in your mind as it boasts of one of the most renowned historical sites of the world Taj Mahal, an epitome of love. If you have fascination for beautiful beaches and nature then visit South India and experience astonishing beauty of nature alongside captivating beaches in the coastal region. For India it is rightly said at every kilometer you will find diversity in culture, traditions and heritage.

At times whenever I am visiting my hometown Agra in intercity express train I find a group of people singing devotional songs in the compartment. Last Friday (21st August) also I was fortunate enough to see that group, there were some 15 to 20 persons who were completely engrossed in chanting devotional hymn praising lord Krishna, Rama, Shankara, Mata Vaishnu and others. They also had a battery powered mike and some instrument to support.

To know more about this group I thought it fit to speak with one of the members Dalchand. He told me, “Most of them are from different towns commuting daily in the same train. They are employed in Faridabad, Delhi and Noida, they chant devotional hymn both in morning and evening. There is a fixed compartment D-9 where they all meet. These members are from Faridabad, Hodal, Ballabhgarh and Mathura and other hamlets.” Dalchand also added, “They have been singing like this since more than five years and it relieves them from official stress, some of the members of this amazing group are Trilokinath, Raju, Rajesh Kumar, Sureh, Rampal, Jawaharlal Suresh Kumar and O P Sharma.

As they are like family- they also share each other’s happiness and sorrow and come forward to lend a helping hand whenever any of the members faces tough time be it related to education or employment. Some of the listeners also gave them donation for prasad which they accepted gladly. On every station I noticed one or two member disembarking saying Ram Ram or Radhey Shyam.

Can’t we have some more groups like this to spread the message of love and brotherhood in a country like our’s which experiences communal riots and tension every now and then?
