FROM TODAY Night (November 30), millions of phones without Unique Identification nimbers (IMEI Code) will be stop ringing.

As the deadline by the Govenment of India to the operators to block calls to such devices on security concerns is expiring today.

The 15 – digit international Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) Number helps security agencies trace calls made from and received on handsets and  these can be seen and identified by pressing the code (*#06#). Automatically the IMEI Number will be seen in your Mobile set if not then call the operators.

The numbers which represent the manufactuer`s name and type of phone is automatically registered with the Mobile Service Provider as soon as the phone is activated.

For security reasons and in the wake of increased threat perception from terrorists, the department of telephone had asked operators not to allow calls to be completed on the handsets without the IMEI number from November 30th night onwards.

More than three crore mobile handsets are without IMEI at present, according to a survey and will stop ringing from today night.

However, a large number of users are yet to avail the number, operators feel the deadline should be extended. As per the earlier estimates, over 25 million handsets are in circulation without IMEI numbers.

A cellular operator, who does not wish to be identified said, "Why are subscribers being penalised? They had purchased handsets from markets without knowing any such clause.

However, a large number of users are yet to avail the number, operators feel the deadline should be extended.

But above all, it's necessary to stop terrorist activities around the world and as a part of precautionary measures, it’s a very important that all are united and follow the rules, which the govt has instructed the Citizens of India and in International safety because at present situation nobody is safe any moment.

Dear Pradeep,"Have a Nice day"Your question is how to get IMEI No. You can try these :- How to get IMEI number legally in India for Chinese Mobiles?Ans:- 01 Dec 09 onwards mobile phones without an IMEI number will not work. Mobile phone operators have been instructed to stop the services to these handsets. Millions of Indians are using the China made, local and smuggled handsets which don't have valid IMEI number. If you are one among this then you have the one and only option to get an IMEI number.Remember the followingA genuine IMEI number can only be implanted at authorized GII service centers as per Govt approved processes recognized by COAI & MSAI. If it is done at any other unauthorized source it will not be valid. You need to carry ID proof. (Ex: Voter ID Card, Drivers Licenses, etc). Your photograph will be captured at the authorized GII service center, at no extra cost, apart from Rs. 199/- You can carry as many handsets if you like to the center . If you are bringing in multiple handsets it is advisable that you come in person with valid ID proof. Now it is a Golden chance to get a genuine IMEI number.Visit your nearest GII (Genuine IMEI Implant program) center and with a nominal fee of Rs 199/- you will get a new IMEI number. It is the once in a life time opportunity to make your phone live*{Anand Krishnan}Merinews
